A Richmond-based designer is the talk of the runway leading up to this year’s Vancouver Fashion Week as she showcases a new line of street-wear and dance-wear.
Maria Hilario, founder of dancewear brand, Muvmint, aims to create pieces that empower dancers both on and off the stage. A hip-hop dancer herself, Hilario built the brand through her personal experiences in the active wear industry and as a performer.
“Each design takes inspiration from current hip-hop fashion trends mixed with functional elements,” said Hilario in a press release. “All garments are made with fabrics that allow for breathability and comfort for our dancers.”
Vancouver Fashion Week runs from March 19 to 25 and Muvmint will be showcased on March 21 at 6:30 p.m.
“Mixing emerging and established designers from across the world has been our recipe for success for over 17 years,” said Jamal Abdourahman, producer and founder of Vancouver Fashion Week, in a press release. “Vancouver Fashion Week is fortunate to be working with remarkable talent and growing alongside maturing designers. We are grateful that we as an organization can, and have acted as a stepping stone in their careers.”
Vancouver Fashion Week was founded 17 years ago. As an annual event, VFW seeks to showcase international and local designers. For more information, visit www.vanfashionweek.com.
