A Richmond dad fighting a rare and spreading cancer has made a fresh appeal for financial help.

The Richmond News reported last year and earlier this year how a crowd funder had been set up for Kevin Arcand to help with tens of thousands of dollars of medical bills associated with his treatment for the rare SCC (squamous cell carcinoma) in his nose.

Arcand, 53, went back to work briefly this year but the cancer spread to his lungs and head, so he had to stop once more.

Now his EI is about to run out and he’s worried about being able to foot the constant medical bills for his treatment, as he awaits the outcome of a nine-month-old workers compensation claim.

“I’m in no shape to go back to work..I’m doing immunotherapy therapy once every three weeks. I need help,” Arcand told the News this week.

“I’m trying to claim WCB because I have been an outside worker for 38 years and the type of cancer I have is caused from the sun’s UV rays, plus all the two-stroke exhaust I inhaled.”

Treatment appears to be working

Arcand’s wife, Sherry, posted on their GoFundMe page last week that her husband was on treatment number seven of his current course, adding that it appears to be starting to work.

“CT scan shows one of the lesions on his lungs has disappeared. The MRI shows that everything is stable and there has been no progression of the cancer in his nasal cavity.

“We have acquired help from a professional claims person to help us fight with Workers Compensation.”
