Richmond COVID-19 cases keep dropping

Vaccination rates in all Richmond neighbourhoods exceed provincial rates.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Richmond seems to be dropping while daily provincial numbers continue to be stuck around the 600 mark.

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) reported 33 new cases in Richmond between Oct. 10 and 16, down from the last week reported, Oct 3 to 9, when 41 cases were reported. The week prior, there were 56 new cases in Richmond.

Across B.C., there were 696 new cases reported Wednesday for the previous 24-hour period, but only 76 of those were in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), which Richmond belongs to.

Vaccination rates in Richmond are relatively high with all neighbourhoods reporting above the provincial rate, which was 83.6 per cent on Wednesday for those 12 and older with two doses.

Eighty-nine per cent of residents aged 12 and older in Steveston, City Centre and East/West Cambie/Bridgeport have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In the Gilmore/Shellmont/East/Hamilton area, the rate is 87 per cent and in Thompson/Seafair, the rate is 84 per cent.

Eighty-three per cent of residents 12 and older in Blundell and Broadmoor have received two doses of the vaccine.

(See map for how these areas are geographically defined by the health authority.)

Four pop-up clinics are scheduled in Richmond over the next week including one at the South Arm Community Centre on Thursday, Oct 21 (until 4 p.m.) and one at the seniors centre at the Minoru Centre for Active Living on Friday, Oct. 22 (noon to 8 p.m.).
