COVID-19 cases in Richmond seem to be holding steady in the 50s and 60s, according to weekly data from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), while vaccinations continue to tick upwards.
There were 56 new cases detected in Richmond between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2, and the rate per 100,000 is between one and five cases.
Last week, BCCDC reported 68 cases in a seven-day period, while the week before this number was 59.
Most areas around Richmond – Delta, Surrey, South Vancouver and Burnaby – all have between five and 10 cases per 100,000 population.
Farther up the valley, in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, Mission and Abbotsford, the cases per 100,000 are much higher, at 20 or more.
Across the province, however, numbers of COVID-19 cases continue to number in the hundreds daily.
On Thursday, the province announced there were 624 new cases across B.C. with 373 people in hospital and 132 in intensive care.
In Steveston, 88 per cent of residents aged 12 and older have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and in City Centre the vaccination rate is 87 per cent. Several other areas of Richmond are well above 80 per cent vaccinated.
