The city is expanding the number of meetings livestreamed to the public.
During Monday’s general purposes committee meeting, council voted to expand the number of meetings it livestreams to include the development permit panel and council-school board liaison meetings.
However, livestreaming of council-school board liaison meetings will be subject to the approval of Richmond School District.
Councillors have been participating in videoconference meetings for the last few months. Prior to Monday’s vote, open council, special council, public hearings, general purposes committee and finance committee meetings were livestreamed to the city’s YouTube channel.
Council will continue to stream from council chambers for the duration of the pandemic.
However, in the meantime, the city will look at refitting the Anderson Room, where standing committee meetings are usually held, with technology for livestreaming, for when in-person meetings resume post-pandemic. Council has asked city staff to look into the costs of that technology.
Staff will also look into the costs of, for example, plexiglass barriers for both the Anderson Room and council chambers.
