The City of Richmond has been recognized nationally for its mentorship and on-site training of new engineers.
In 2017, Richmond became the first municipality to gain accreditation with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) for its accredited employer member-in-training (MIT) program, giving engineers-in-training greater access to education, developmental resources and mentorship opportunities.
Membership in the EGBC program can also help the city attract and retain high-calibre talent.
The Richmond program for engineers-in-training was recognized with the 2020 CAMA Professional Development Award at a virtual award of excellence ceremony put on by the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).
“The scope of projects, from large and small municipalities right across this country, amazed our judging panel,” said Tony Kulbisky, chair for the 2020 CAMA Awards Jury, chief administrative officer of Devon, Alta. “A total of 36 awards submissions were received and I extend my congratulation to the winners and all those who took the time to enter a submission.”
The Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Program is offered for those new to the profession.
Over their training period, EITs are exposed to a variety of teams, projects, and objectives as they rotate annually through the City of Richmond’s Engineering & Public Works and Transportation departments.
