The City of Richmond isn’t divulging any details about the process causing significant delays in construction and a crack in one of the pools at the Minoru Centre for Active Living.
A freedom-of-information (FOI) request made by the Richmond News in October to look at a report about the crack in the pool — 66 pages of documents — was denied in its entirety “on the basis of solicitor client privilege and litigation privilege under common law.”
A previous FOI request by the News to look at documents relating to the delays in construction — after several requests for information yielded no explanation — was largely denied.
The News is appealing the city’s denial of both requests with the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner. The first appeal should be dealt with by March.
The aquatic centre has remained closed whereas the seniors centre opened in March. Repairs on the pool are expected to be done by next fall. The fitness centre is slated to open in January.
