Richberry Group of Companies CEO Peter Dhillon has been inducted into the B.C. Business Laureate by the Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC).

Dhillon is one of three inductees in 2022 and is the first business leader from Richmond and the first Punjabi South Asian to be recognized by JABC as a BC business laureate.

The Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame honours achievements of B.C. leaders that have shaped the province and the country.

“It’s kind of overwhelming, and I’m just humbled and honoured to have been awarded,” said Dhillon.

“As a visible minority and a child of two immigrants, I think it really says a lot about our country and our province where somebody like me could be in the same company of some of the great legends of British Columbia.”

The Richmond resident leads a 35-year-old family business growing cranberries in British Columbia and in Quebec, and his business is considered one of the world’s largest suppliers of cranberries.

Dhillon told the Richmond News that he is grateful to be inducted to the Business Laureates as a leader of the agricultural industry.

“Being in agriculture, which is an industry that was never recognized, it’s great to see it getting highlighted,” said Dhillon.

“I’m assuming they see all the issues around agriculture and food security, and it is a very important discussion (at this time), and maybe getting a little spotlight on growing food is a good thing.”

Dhillon is a member of the Ocean Spray Cranberries grower-owned cooperative in North America and he was appointed as the chair of Ocean Spray in March 2014.

He has also served in a number of boards in the past years such as Vancouver Airport Authority, Simon Fraser University, Atomic Energy of Canada and Seacor Environmental.
