Do you know the first houses in Finn Slough were built on pilings?
In the early years, the dykes were not built well enough to keep the river off the land in south Richmond. When tides came in, chickens had to find shelter on the roof of the chicken houses, according to FinnSlough.com
The first houses were built on pilings to protect the chickens from the high tides.
