Fun fact about Richmond...
Do you know there was a moment in Steveston's history when the village became a ghost town?
During World War Two, more than 80 per cent of Steveston's population was gone as 2,000 Japanese Canadians were interned, according to the Richmond Museum website.
Stores were closed, schools were emptied, and Japanese Canadian belongings, including 1,200 fishing boats, were impounded and sold.
The community was only allowed to return to the West Coast in 1949, four years after the war ended.
