Richmond Fire Rescue battled a big fire at a storage depot until late Tuesday evening.
Seven fire rescue units and at least a dozen firefighters were on scene at the Self Storage Depot on Cambie Road, between Sexsmith and Brown roads, on April 15.
Grant Wyenberg, assistant deputy chief with Richmond Fire-Rescue, said the department responded to a report of smoke coming from the commercial storage complex around 1:30 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to large quantities of smoke and began "an aggressive interior attack" on the fire.
"The decision was made to back out and fight the fire defensively as fire growth was outpacing the ability for crews to suppress it," said Wyenberg.
The fire, he added, was confined to a "one fire-stopped area" of about 200 feet long, which affected around 20 to 25 storage units.
Fire-Rescue called in an excavator late in the evening to help expose the burning sections of the storage complex.
Wyenberg told the Richmond News that a fire investigator will be on scene on Wednesday morning to start an investigation into the cause of the fire.
No injuries to fire crews or bystanders have been reported.
