The Richmond Auto Mall came out as the Richmond Food Bank’s top donor for 2017, raising over $40,000 in cash and bringing a truckload of food items.

The Richmond Auto Mall Association, which represents 15 dealerships in the city, staged challenges and competitions for raising funds, motivating its participants with prizes.

“We are grateful for this continuing relationship with the auto mall,” said Richmond Food Bank’s director Hajira Hussain in a press release.  “It is heartwarming to see that they take corporate social responsibility seriously and make it fun at the same time. Their generosity will go a long ways in ensuring that the Richmond Food Bank is abundantly stocked to serve our neighbours in need.”

Throughout the year, the auto mall also sent teams of volunteers to the food bank to help with various tasks around the warehouse, such as sorting donations.

The Richmond Auto Mall also raised more than $36,000 at its 14th annual Windows of Hope event for the Richmond Christmas Fund, where volunteers painted the dealerships’ showroom windows with fun holiday images. Funds were raised through sponsorships, raffles and silent auctions.

“It was all about teamwork, community and spirit,” said Gail Terry, manager of the auto mall.
