Richmond’s powerlifting champion Sumeet Sharma received a special award from Douglas College.
The Douglas College Foundation and Alumni Relations awarded 35 alumni with the Alumni35 Award, which honours those who use their skills and knowledge to “adapt, innovate and lead in our ever-changing world” through their career or passion project.
“It is a huge honour and a privilege to receive this award. It means the world to me,” said Sharma.
He added that this award shows the dedication of his Team Canada powerlifting team, sponsors and his work in making donations and helping non-profit organizations these past three years.
Sharma and other award recipients were each given $1,000 to help further their career or passion projects, donate to a Douglas College faculty or program or to a charity of their choice.
“The money that I have received will be donated to non-profit organizations within the community,” he said.
