This year, several of the finalists were previous finalists, including cultural volunteer and artist Lorraine Wellman and the community-based theatrical program, Richmond in 3D.

The awards recognize the achievements and contributions to the arts by Richmond residents, artists, educators, organizers and business leaders.

A four-person selection committee received 94 nominations and narrowed the list down to three finalists in each of the six categories.

The resulting list recognizes well-established institutions and inpiduals as well as rising stars in Richmonds performing and visual arts scenes.

This years selection panel includes: Willa Walsh, last years winner for volunteerism, board member of Richmond Arts Coalition and chair of the City of Richmond Public Art Commission; Ying Wang, executive and artistic director of last years winner for Artistic Innovation, Cinevolution Media Arts Society; Lansdowne Centre marketing manager, Bronwyn Bailey; and former artistic director of the Gateway Theatre and 2011 winner for Cultural Leadership, Simon Johnston.

The awards program was developed in 2009 by the City of Richmond in partnership with the Richmond Arts Coalition.

It is presented by Canadian Western Bank with support from the Richmond News and Tempest Development Group.
