The Richmond Ravens U11 C1 girls celebrate their gold medal in Burnaby

The Richmond Ravens U11 C1 team took home gold from the Remembrance Day tournament at the Scotia Barn Arena in Burnaby.

On the first day, the girls were up and at it early, with the puck dropping at 7 a.m. against Vancouver U11 C1 and a resultant 6-2 loss.

After a short break in between games, the Ravens eventually woke up and were able to recharge themselves and pull out a gutsy 2-1 win against the Burnaby U11 C1 team, with Ravens’ captain Ilya Cyr leading the way, scoring both of the goals.

On the Saturday, the girls played Meadow Ridge U11 C1 in an evenly matched contest, but lost out narrowly, 2-1.

However, the team’s low number of goals against throughout the tournament earned them a spot in the semi-finals.

21 saves for Ravens' goaltender

On the Sunday, the team faced Meadow Ridge in the semis and won 1-0, thanks to a strong team defensive game and goaltending from Keira Buxton, who made 21 stops for the shutout, while Tia Yeung had the lone goal, assisted by Ilya Cyr.

Later in the day, the team went on to play in the finals against Vancouver U11 C1 and, on the back of another strong team defensive game, finished with a 4-1 win.

Madeline Cabana led the scoring with two goals, with Dayna Gillanders and Haylie Tran rounding out the scoring.
