The City of Richmond will consult with the public on its draft 2019-2029 Homelessness Strategy which includes 26 recommendations and a vision statement that states homelessness in Richmond by 2029 will be “rare, brief and non-recurring.”

It’s estimated there are about 120 homeless people in Richmond, and others at risk of eviction, housing instability or homelessness.

The draft report got feedback from local service providers including BC Housing, Atira, Chimo, RCMP and the Richmond Poverty Response Committee.

The five strategic directions are: preventing pathways to homelessness, supporting those who are homeless, providing pathways out of homelessness, collaboration and capacity building with community partners and communication, research and monitoring of homelessness.

The first strategy came out in 2002.

A public open house will be held on June 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre with information about draft strategy where the public can give feedback.
