The business case for the George Massey Tunnel replacement project is now in the hands of the provincial government.

In a statement Friday, the Ministry of Transportation said the business case outlines two short-listed options: an eight-lane bridge and an eight-lane immersed tube tunnel.

The next steps include reviewing the business case, consulting with partners and stakeholders and making a final decision the new crossing.

Once the decision has been made, the business case will be made public, the ministry said.

The province previously promised that case would be made public this fall.

The eight-lane immersed tube tunnel option was endorsed by Metro Vancouver’s mayors last year.

In an emailed statement to the Richmond News earlier this week, the ministry said that the project’s “scope, cost and timeline will be confirmed once the decision on the crossing has been made.”

The current crossing opened in 1959.
