Prince George sees significant drop in COVID-19 cases during latest seven-day period

Despite having the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the province, Prince George continues to see encouraging drops in caseloads. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence data from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), from Feb. 21 to 27, 2021, Prince George recorded just 30 cases, the second-lowest in the region. 

Peace River South saw the highest tally with 33, while Peace River North found 22.

Both Burns Lake and Quesnel had two total cases while the Nechako region tallied three.

As of this publication (March 4), northern B.C. has recorded 4,693 cases of the virus with 268 currently active. A total of 4,303 have been classified as fully recovered. 

There are 23 people hospitalized throughout the region, 12 of which are in ICU or critical care. 

The BCCDC says 109 lives have been lost in northern B.C. to the virus. 

As of March 1, Northern Health currently holds an 11.1 per cent seven-day moving average, the highest in the province, and remains the only health authority in double-digit figures compared to other regions.

Island Health is sitting at 3.4 per cent, Vancouver Coastal Health 5.8 per cent, Fraser Health has seen a rise to 7.7 per cent while Interior Health continues to remain below five per cent during the same timeframe. 

Overall, the province's seven-day moving average is currently at 6.3 per cent.
