Poll result: Richmond News readers 'skeptical' about 2022

A little over 33 per cent said they feel the COVID-19 battle will continue well into 2022

As we celebrate the beginning of another year, the Richmond News asked readers to share their thoughts about this year.

The majority of readers, 33 per cent, who answered the poll question "How are you feeling about 2022?" said they were skeptical about this year in regards to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Following close behind with 32 per cent of the votes, some are somewhat optimistic with how the year will turn out potentially by spring.

The poll was published on the Richmond News website from Dec. 31, 2021 to Jan. 3, 2022 and received a total of 327 online votes.

Of the 327 votes, we can determine that 111 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Very hopeful, I can see light at the end of the COVID tunnel 13.51 % local, 14.68 % total    
Somewhat optimistic, it might take until the spring though 36.94 % local, 32.42 % total    
Skeptical, I think we might be stuck in this rut until well into 2022 31.53 % local, 33.03 % total    
Gloomy, we will be doing this all over again for another year at least 18.02 % local, 19.88 % total

Results are based on an online study of adult Richmond News readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 5.42%, 19 times out of 20.
