Richmond RCMP is inviting the public to help them celebrate Police Week at its detachment headquarters on May 19.

Police Week runs from May 13 to 19 and is dedicated to increasing community awareness and recognition of police services while strengthening ties with the community.

The event also encourages community involvement and initiation of activities through media awareness and community-sponsored events.

Richmond RCMP will have a public display set up in the front parking lot of the detachment at 11411 No. 5 Rd.

The display will include police vehicles such as patrol cars, motorcycles, ATVs, the Kubota and Richmond's command vehicle.

The RCMP roll-over vehicle, which simulates the necessity to wear seat belts, will also be on site as well as volunteers and auxiliary constables stationed at a crime prevention booth.

There will also be a demonstration by the Lower Mainland District Police Dog Services at 1 p.m.

POLICE RAID HOUSE

Police raided a home in rural Richmond Saturday night, uncovering more than 300 marijuana plants among what appears to be a grow-op.

The investigation kicked off Saturday in South Delta, before it moved into Richmond at night with a police helicopter hovering above the home at the south end of No. 7 Road.

According to police, a search warrant was executed and the plants were found in two rooms, but no arrests were made or charges laid.

MAN FACES RIOT CHARGES

Another Richmond resident has been charged for allegedly taking part in the notorious Stanley Cup riot of 2011.

The Crown on Thursday approved charges of participating in the riot and breaking and entering against Jeffery Xiao, 20.

Xiao was one of another six suspected rioters named by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) this week as having Crown-approved charges labeled on them for the June 15 incident last year.

In total, 91 suspected rioters are facing 238 criminal charges.

The VPD's riot team has recommended 592 charges against 200 suspected rioters.
