Police seeking witnesses to fatal Richmond crash between semi-truck, Corvette

RCMP are hoping to speak to witnesses of fatal crash that took place in east Richmond between a Corvette and a semi-truck.

Around 6:30 a.m. July 11, police responded to the 7200 block of Nelson Road, near Blundell Road, for a collision involving a semi-truck and a black Chevrolet Corvette.

According to Richmond RCMP, the Corvette was travelling southbound on Nelson Road from Westminster Highway when it collided with the semi-truck. 

“The collision resulting in catastrophic damage to the car,” RCMP said in a statement.

The Corvette’s driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, did not survive his injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck remained on scene and has been cooperative with police.

Police say speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision. 

The Richmond RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) – who have conduct of the investigation – attended and processed the scene along with the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Services.

Police are now seeking any witnesses to the crash, and are asking vehicle owners with dash-cams, who may have been travelling in the area at the time, to review their footage.

Business owners are also asked to review their video surveillance for possible footage.
