The Richmond RCMP entered a location on 6000 block on No. 3 Road shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday after receiving information about a crime in progress.
A suspect was taken into custody and no injuries or fatalities were reported, according to Dennis Hwang, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP.
He added that there were officers at the location and the police are in the process of executing a search warrant for the site.
“We are in the middle of a major investigation. Unfortunately I cannot give out any more details,” said Hwang.
When the Richmond News arrived at the scene around noon and 6:30 p.m., two police cars were parked outside of the front and back door of a foreign currency exchange store at the location. No one was allowed to enter the shop.
Resident Gaelle Masi contacted the News this morning, saying she lives in the tower above the store and heard “a very big noise” around 6 a.m.
“Seems like there was an explosion...The police was here, it smelled like burning, a fire truck came, the building’s alarm rang,” said Masi.
The News will update the story when more information is released.
