Do you know the math term “π”? This indefinite number is a critical concept in pure mathematics and typically expressed as 3.14 or 3.1415. Mathnasium of Richmond is having an open house celebration of Pi Day next Wednesday at 3:14:15 p.m. with pi-themed food and activities.
“We have planned some crafts making events as well as maths activities such as a memorizing contest of pi for the celebration day,” Tony Colabella, owner of the Mathnasium of Richmond told the News.
Mathnasium, a franchise mathematics learning centre with nine locations across Metro Vancouver, opened its Richmond location this January. Other locations across the Lower Mainland will also celebrate Pi Day.
Pi Day is an annual celebration on March 14 in countries with the date format month/day, since the date matches the first three numbers of Pi, 3.14.
Traditionally, people celebrate Pi Day with educational events and math activities as well as round “pi-themed” food such as pizza pies, fruit pies, cookies and cupcakes.
