A person was rescued from a dump truck by Richmond Fire-Rescue.

A person sleeping in a garbage bin in Richmond recently got a rude awakening when they were, along with the garbage, accidentally dumped into a garbage truck.

Luckily, the driver of the truck was keeping an eye on what was going into the bin of the truck and noticed what had happened.

And, even more luckily, the person was uninjured.

Richmond Fire-Rescue was called to extricate the person in a “technical rescue” using their ladders to get him out on Sept. 16 on Westminster Highway, according to a report going to city council's community safety meeting next week.

Fire chief Jim Wishlove, however, declined to give details on the incident, saying he wanted to update the community safety committee first.
