The Richmond RCMP is reminding pedestrians to wear bright colours to help make them more visible to drivers, following a pair of incidents Monday night that sent a senior to hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, the first incident took place around 5:30 p.m. when an 80-year-old man was struck while crossing Steveston Highway at Trimaran Gate. He sustained head injuries and was taken to Vancouver General Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
A short time later, at around 6 p.m., a 17-year-old male was hit by a car while walking along Williams Road at Stillmond Road and suffered minor injuries.
In both cases, rainy weather and darkness are being considered contributing factors, said Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Stephanie Ashton. The drivers involved remained on the scene and assisted police. Charges have not yet been considered, Ashton added.
