Outbreak should not affect elective surgeries at Richmond Hospital: Meena Dawar

Because the COVID-19 outbreak at Richmond Hospital is in the medical unit, not the surgical unit, Richmond’s medical health officer, Dr. Meena Dawar, doesn’t think it will affect the reintroduction of elective surgeries.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the hospital outbreak remained at five cases. Last week, the province reported there were three patients and two staff who had contracted the virus in the hospital.

The province has cancelled about 30,000 elective surgeries as hospitals prepared for an onslaught of COVID-19 cases.

But as the province moves to re-open services, they plan to start doing elective surgeries again.
