Olivia Chow in town to support NDP hopefuls

Party's HQ taking Richmond seriously: Stewart

The mere appearance of Olivia Chow in Richmond is a sign of how seriously the NDP is taking the three ridings in next months B.C. election.

Thats the view of Richmond-Steveston hopeful Scott Stewart after being bowled over by MP Chow, the wife of the federal NDPs late leader, Jack Layton.

Chow appeared at a fundraiser for all three Richmond NDP candidates at the Continental Seafood Restaurant Wednesday night.

And the significance of Chows presence wasnt lost on Stewart, a former policeman whos bidding to become the NDPs first Richmond MLA since Harold Steves back in 1972.

I do think her being here is an indication of the NDPs intentions and hopes for Richmond, said Stewart.

Ill be honest, I was beside myself last night and it was an honour to meet her and hear her story.

Stewart said the appearance of Chow, a Toronto MP, also provides an insight into the NDPs B.C. leader, Adrian Dixs, hopes for Richmond.

Will (Chows appearance) have an effect? I think a bigger effect will come from people listening to what Adrian has to say over the next few weeks, added Stewart.

But the only true assessment that counts is the one the people will ultimately give on May 14.

Also running in Richmond-Steveston are: John Yap (Liberal incumbent); Carol Day (BC Conservative); Mike Donovan (Unparty) and Jerome Dickey (Green).
