On Friday afternoon police in Richmond were back at a house on No. 1 Road where an apparent explosion occurred in January.

This time, Richmond RCMP were handling a domestic disturbance.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Friday officers from the Delta Watch crew responded to a residence in the 8000 block of No. 1 Road after it was reported there was a distraught male allegedly armed with a baseball bat, said Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“Occupants were evacuated from the residence while officers searched for the suspect. The suspect was located in a closet by police and was arrested without incident. No one was reportedly injured by the suspect though some property damage was observed,” said Hwang, via email.

The suspect, a 39-year old male, was arrested for breach of peace and transported to the detachment. He is known to police, said Hwang, who did not note any charges.

It was in January when several residents reported an explosion at the same house. Damage was discovered that was “consistent with the detonation of an improvised explosive device,” according to police.

No one was reportedly injured and the occupants of the home in question were cooperative with police, said Hwang at the time.

The Richmond RCMP’s General Investigative Section is on that case, along with assistance from Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the LMD Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU).
