Some upcoming 2015 road improvements may be of interest to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike in Richmond.

The City of Richmond approved upgrades to 14 intersections that will improve pedestrian safety, at a cost of $1.15 million.

Furthermore, some new City Centre streets will take form in 2015.

Lansdowne Road will be extended from Minoru Boulevard to Alderbridge Way. A new shared bike path will be constructed and overhead electrical wires will be put underground.

Included in the $3 million extension project is a new intersection at Lansdowne and Minoru.

As Lansdowne further develops, city planners envision a bike path from the Richmond Olympic Oval to the Garden City Lands.

Meanwhile, frazzled shoppers and commuters at Blundell Centre will be pleased to learn that the No. 2 Road entrance will have a full traffic signal installed (no more flashing red light when exiting the mall).

Meanwhile the following six intersections will have pedestrian crosswalks with controlled flashing amber lights installed:

Granville-McCallan

Chatham-1st

Railway-Hollymount

Shell-Bird

No. 4-Dayton

Elmbridge-WorkSafeBC

The following seven intersections will have pedestrian-controlled traffic signals installed (so drivers will need to stop at a red light):

Francis-St.Albans

Kwantlen Street-Kwantlen University

Westminster-McCallan

Blundell-Ash

No. 2-Colville

No. 1-Regent
