Areas around Metro Vancouver, including Richmond, are expected to be engulfed in fog tonight and Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada issued a fog advisory on Tuesday afternoon, warning of "fog with near zero visibility" that may be hazardous for travel and cause a risk of developing slippery surfaces in areas that fall below freezing.

The advisory applies to Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Sunshine Coast, Southern Gulf Islands, East Vancouver Island and the Malahat Highway from Goldstream to Mill Bay.

Drivers are advised to turn on their lights and maintain a safe following distance if they experience reduced visibility.
