Richmond RCMP caught a new driver speeding more than double the allowed limit in East Richmond.

The N driver was recorded going at 123 kilometres per hour on Westminster Highway near No. 9 Road during "inclement weather," according to Richmond RCMP's post on social media platform X.

Roads in the City of Richmond have a maximum speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour except for provincial roads.

The driver also had three passengers in the car.

New drivers are only allowed one passenger unless they are family members or there is a person 25 years or older with a valid class 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 driver's license.

Two violation tickets were given for excessive speeding and exceeding the passenger limit, and their car was towed and impounded for seven days.

They were fined $483 for speeding and $109 for having more passengers than allowed in the car.
