Richmond residents are still wondering why there was what appeared to be a fully-armed tactical police team in their neighbourhood on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports on social media, gunfire could be heard in the area of the 7-Eleven store on Granville Avenue and St. Alban’s Road.
Officers in tactical uniforms, armed with rifles, could be seen guarding the store’s parking lot.
While one photo posted to Twitter appeared to show at least one man under arrest behind the store.
The Richmond News has reached out to the RCMP, which said the operation was conducted by another police agency, but could not say which one.
A spokesperson for the CSFEU – a provincial integrated anti-gang agency – told the News it was not aware of any operation in the area at the time.
The News has reached out to the Vancouver Police Department to ask if it was in charge of the operation.
