Richmond's Rose Nurmohamed won the innovation award at the 2012 Childcare Awards ceremony at a Downtown Vancouver hotel last week.

Nurmohamed, who has been running her Rise and Shine Montessori from her home for 25 years, was recognized for her innovation in programming.

In particular, it was her Under the Sea themed napping room for the children and her programming mix of Montessori, natural play and yoga that impressed the judges.

I was so elated to win and to be among peers that I admire so much, Nurmohamed said of picking up the award.

She was joined on the podium by Richmond's Maria Rodrigues, who was awarded the 2012 Child Care Award of Excellence for her outstanding work on behalf of B.C. children and their families.

The B.C. government honoured ten child-care professionals, organizations, and local governments who have demonstrated outstanding service to children and families.
