Metro Vancouver opens extra shelter spaces in response to extreme weather alert

A total of 100 beds have been made available in Metro Vancouver for those sleeping outside this weekend

The Homelessness Services Association of BC has opened extra shelter spaces across Metro Vancouver due to an extreme weather alert.

Due to an extreme weather alert affecting Metro Vancouver this weekend (Nov. 6-7) extra shelter spaces have been made available to those sleeping outside. 

The alert was issued on Nov. 5 and will continue through Nov. 7 due to rainfall and temperatures feeling at or near 0 C. The response is spearheaded by the Homelessness Services Association of BC and includes nine locations across Delta, the North Shore, Surrey, the Tri-Cities and Vancouver.

  • Directions Youth Services Centre - 1138 Burrard Street 
    • Will provide overnight accommodation to seven youth (24 years of age and under). Open 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. for the Extreme Weather Response program. Mats will be provided after midnight. Pets accepted to a maximum of four animals.

  • Tenth Church - 11 10th Ave W (at Ontario Street)
    • Operates between 9 p.m. and 9 am. Light refreshments and showers available. Small carts can be stored on-site. Mats will be available to 10 adults (19+). Pet-friendly program, some restrictions may apply.

  • Cascades Church - 3833 Boundary Road (West side of Boundary) 
    • Operates between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. Mats will be available to 10 adults (19+). Food will be offered upon intake and in the morning. Enter through the left side door and rear parking lot off Lane way. No pets or cart storage. Not wheelchair accessible.

    • The shelter is able to provide beds to 12 people, between 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
