A ban on bbq grills and stoves in Richmond parks is in effect until the provincial-wide fire ban is lifted.

With the ongoing B.C. forest fires and province-wide fire ban, Richmond and several other cities have also placed a ban on grilling or cooking food in many local parks.

Every year, the City of Richmond places a ban on barbecues or stoves of any type in many of their parks when a fire ban or extreme fire danger warning is in effect.

Barbecue stoves including wood, charcoal, natural gas or propane are not allowed in most of the parks in Richmond.

However, there are four Richmond parks with designated areas for grilling if you plan to have a picnic.

These parks are:

  • Garry Point Park
  • King George Community Park
  • South Arm Community Park
  • McDonald Beach Park

This year, the Government of B.C. announced a fire ban where open fires and campfires were prohibited as of June 30.

As of July 25, there are 257 wildfires currently burning in the province, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

About 4,400 properties are affected by the wildfires with 58 evacuation orders in place. Nearly 17,500 properties are on evacuation alert where residents have been told they may need to leave on short notice.
