A man has pleaded guilty to breaking and entering into four Richmond businesses back in March 2022.
Derek John Muirhead was identified and charged by police for the four incidents after an investigation by the Richmond RCMP property crime unit. He was known to the police.
According to police, the first break-and-enter took place at approximately 3:29 a.m. on March 21, 2022, when a suspect allegedly broke into a store near Walmart and stole around $2,500 worth of merchandise.
Three more incidents occurred on March 25, 2022, when two suspects allegedly attempted to break into three businesses near the Ironwood Plaza, Kingswood Square and in a commercial area near Westminster Hwy and Graybar Rd.
"As police we want to solve crimes and bring offenders to justice to make our communities safer. While we are specifically assigned to investigate criminal offences in Richmond, we don’t work in a vacuum," said Sgt. Russel Yugai, Richmond Investigative Services.
Yugai added that the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team provided significant assistance for the investigation.
"We are connected with all police jurisdictions and agencies throughout the Lower Mainland and province because we know that individuals committing crimes are doing so in multiple jurisdictions," he said.
Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed or have information regarding a potential criminal to contact the police of jurisdiction. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit them online at www.solvecrime.ca.
