Man in Richmond court for allegedly smuggling 163 cartons of cigarettes

A man will be back in Richmond Provincial Court in late February to face smuggling charges.

A man has been charged in Richmond for attempting to smuggle 163 cartons of unstamped cigarettes into Canada.

Lkhagvasurent Batchuluun was caught by the Canadian Border Services Agency allegedly importing the cigarettes in September.

Four charges were laid against Batchuluun: making a false verbal statement by not declaring the cigarettes, evading import duties, smuggling goods that are subject to duties and possession of cigarettes that weren’t stamped.

Batchuluun made a first appearance in Richmond Provincial Court on Tuesday.

He is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 27.
