One man has died following a residential fire in Richmond Monday evening.
Just before 6 p.m., Richmond Fire-Rescue were called to a townhouse complex at 10680 Springmont Drive. While crews were initially responding to reports of smoke, the call was quickly upgraded to a first alarm fire as flames could be seen from the townhouse.
Fire and rescue crews found the occupant with second degree burns lying in the front yard. He was transported to hospital, but died from his injuries. His name is not being released as family are still being notified.
The cause of fire is still under investigation and those in neighbouring units were not injured and have since returned to their homes.
