Letters: Please slow down for construction in Richmond

A Richmond News reader thinks it's high time the authorities step up enforcement of speed limits in construction zones
Capstan Station construction
Construction continues for the new Capstan Station in Richmond.

Dear Editor,

In this last week, construction has started on Gilbert Road for a new line to the Lulu Island sewage treatment plant.

Most of my 47 years of work were spent at the side of the roads where you take your life in your hands with traffic failing to slow down and ignoring traffic control.

Like Steveston Highway and Westminster Highway, the posted speed limit does not mean much.

Drivers are hell-bent on getting to work, their kids to and from school or just ignorant of the workers that have to work on the roadway.

This is a great spot to enforce the construction speed limits and educate drivers on road safety.

ICBC is running a program along with their law enforcement partners to curb speeding in our communities.

But I don’t see much of that in Richmond.

I have contacted the mayor and council and the local RCMP detachment about road safety.

None have responded as promised.

It’s time for action as all other methods have failed.
