Dear Editor,
Re: “Petition circulating against Steveston affordable homes,” Online June 12.
I endorse the affordable housing project for women and children that has the principled and financial support of our City and the federal government as reported in your article on June 12.
The project is ready to go, land is available as is federal funding. The need is real, and this affordable housing should be built without delay.
Helping those who “need the most help” captures the strength of Canadian values that bring our Richmond community together.
Local resident Mina Kaur is to be applauded for her commitment to those values of helping others by refusing to sign the petition opposing the development as noted in your article.
Alarming in the story was that the petitioner was saying “it was for drug addicts”.
Totally untrue and without any evidence to say the least. Yes, we can have honest and open discourse in discussion, but making false statements and innuendo as you assert privilege is a downward path that our community must avoid.
Your voice matters. Let it be heard.
As an immigrant of 40 years who has been volunteering in our loving and diverse community in Richmond, I rejoice in our Canadian values to help others and give moms and kids the needed help to have an affordable home in which to live, grow and succeed.
