Letter: Richmond MP has every right to be scared

A Richmond News reader is agreeing with MP Kenny Chiu over his fears about criminal refugee claimants roaming around Canada

Dear Editor,

Re: “Criminal refugee numbers ‘scare’ MP,” News,  May 4.

Richmond–Steveston MP Kenny Chiu’s concerns about the criminal refugee numbers in Canada are valid and timely.

Canada has one of the most welcoming, open and inclusive immigration policies in the world. Unfortunately, these policies are being misused and abused by a number of shady characters.

Canada needs to tighten its rules of entry into Canada and strengthen enforcement to remove those deemed inadmissible.

It is very encouraging to note that Kenny Chiu, along with his colleagues in Canadian Parliament, will be bringing these concerns to the attention of his fellow law makers.

Certainly, we should welcome law-abiding immigrants who are willing to contribute to the growth and development of this country.

At the same time, we must discourage and prevent those bent on abusing our system.
