Cornerstone Christian School students collected thousands of pairs of socks for charity.

The ninth annual Sock Drive at Cornerstone Christian Academy has netted 6,697 pairs of socks for people living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

The sock drive was organized by the school’s Grade 6 students and their teacher Karen Russell and will be donated to Union Gospel Mission.

Russell started the drive in 2013 after teaching her students about homelessness, poverty and other social issues.

The first year the fundraiser was held, the school collected 316 pairs of socks.
