ICBC to ask Richmondites what a high-risk driver looks like

ICBC is coming to Richmond to ask motorists to paint a picture of what a high-risk driver might look like.

ICBC is coming to Richmond to ask motorists to paint a picture of what a high-risk driver might look like.

The corporations reason for hosting Tuesday evenings open house is to find out what changes can be made to the way it sets basic insurance premiums.

One proposal on the table is to ask low-risk drivers to pay less and high-risk driver to pay more.

Quite who those drivers will be is what ICBC wants the publics help in determining.

Weve heard from our customers over the years that the system would be fairer if the low-risk drivers paid less and the high-risk drivers paid more, said David Clancy, ICBCs director of personal product.

Were coming out to share information on how we would change the system and were looking for input on who these drivers would be.

ICBC is now in its third week of traveling around the Lower Mainland, consulting the public about the proposed changes.

Weve been getting a broad range of opinion on what the high-risk driver looks like. Not everyone agrees on who we should look at, Clancy added.

There is a range of options; whether to take into account how far back youve caused crashes or should a crash youve caused recently count more than one a while ago?

Clancy said ICBC recognized that change was needed after more than 30 years of a system that did a fairly good job.

The ICBC team will be in Richmond on Tuesday, June 5 at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel.

No pre-registration is required to attend the public open houses.

If you cant attend the open house, go online at www.publicengagement.icbc.com.

This public consultation and engagement process is not related to ICBCs recent application for a Basic insurance rate increase. The process is focused on gathering input from British Columbians on how ICBC should structure basic insurance rates and to discuss what risk factors should be used to determine each customers insurance premium.
