A Richmond Mountie is being hailed as a hero for jumping into the frigid north arm of the Fraser River to save a woman from drowning.

Richmond RCMP’s Const. Justin Lee apparently didn’t think twice before diving fully-clothed into the river last week after the woman was reportedly in distress under the Arthur Laing Bridge.

According to media reports, the officer, upon hearing the report of the woman in trouble, drove against the traffic with his sirens blaring and was first to arrive on the banks of the river.

By that time, the woman was apparently holding onto a log in the water, prompting Lee into action.

Armed only with the lifejacket from his police cruiser, and another from a colleague who had just arrived, Lee dove in, still wearing his work boots and uniform.

According to reports, the unidentified women released the log and was rescued by Lee, before the pair returned to shore.

Both of them were then treated for hypothermia en route to hospital.
