Keep your umbrella handy this week.

While Environment Canada calls for significantly milder temperatures this week, the Vancouver weather forecast also includes a great deal of rain.

Over the weekend, overnight lows dipped down close to freezing, which prompted the weather forecaster to call for the possibility of flurries.

Now, the forecast calls for a 60 per cent chance of showers during the day on Monday, Dec. 14, followed by rain in the evening. Daytime and overnight lows are 8°C and 4°C, respectively.

The wet weather trend is expected to continue into Tuesday, with the forecast calling for rain during the day and a 60 per cent chance of showers at night. Similarly, Wednesday is expected to see showers during the day and rain at night.

Thursday's forecast calls for a brief but cloudy respite from the rainfall during the day, but the evening forecast calls for periods of rain.

The rain is expected to continue through Friday and into the weekend, with both Saturday and Sunday's forecasts calling for wet weather.

While it will feel more wet than frigid this week in Vancouver, the frosty season is upon us.

Environment Canada calls for a colder, snowier winter this year, but December is expected to be the "oddball" month of the frosty season.

The federal weather department's meteorologist Armel Castellan tells Vancouver Is Awesome in a phone interview that colder weather isn't far off--and plenty of it.
