Health Canada is recalling Hoppetta 2-Way Gauze Sleeping Bags, sold at Baby Square in Richmond and Burnaby.

A baby “sleep bag” sold at Baby Square, which has stores in Richmond and Burnaby, is being recalled by Health Canada due to a flammability hazard.

According to the recall notice, Hoppetta 2-Way Gauze Sleeping Bags – which are made of 100 per cent cotton and available in blue, pink, “rabitte” and polka patterns – are designed as a two-way sleep bag for children aged three months to three years old, transforming from sleeper to dressing gown.

However, these garments don’t meet flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear, according to Health Canada.

“Loose-fitting children’s sleepwear can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear, and once ignited will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body,” Health Canada said.

The health agency said 119 of the affected products were sold between April 2019 and January 2022.

The company hasn’t received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada as of Jan. 21.

People who bought the Hoppetta 2-Way Gauze Sleeping Bag are advised to stop using the garment immediately and either discard it or return it to Baby Square for a refund.
