The family of a Richmond-born man who died last week in a crash in Malaysia is travelling to Kuala Lumpur to bring his body home.
Jason Price Krull, 28, was killed last Monday after the car he was riding in crashed through the barrier of an overpass and plunged into a shallow river below.
The accident happened at 3: 45 a.m. local time as Krull and two others were travelling from Jalan Sultan Ismail to Jalan Munshi Abdullah in the Malaysian capital when the car they were riding in swerved to make a turn and lost control, according to local media reports.
Friends say Krull was not driving. His business partner, said to be from Victoria, also died in the accident but has yet to be named.
A third man from Malaysia survived the crash.
Krull was born in Richmond and regularly spent time between his new home in Coquitlam and Kuala Lumpur, where he had started a manufacturing business.
He leaves behind his wife, Michelle, and his one-year-old son, Tenzyn.
On Saturday, friends held a silent auction in Richmond to help the victim's young wife and son who don't have insurance, according to friends.
A Facebook page titled "In Memory of Jason Price Krull" was put up in his honour and a link to make a donation can be found at http: // www.facebook.com/#!/groups/ jasonkrull.
Michelle and Krull's mother, Lori, are travelling to Kuala Lumpur to bring him home.
It is the family's second loss in little over a year after Jason's free-spirited younger brother, Jordan, died in an accident west of Bangkok in August 2010 at age 26.
Kol Henrikson, a close friend of Jason, said the family is suffering.
"Jason's family and friends are shocked and devastated with the news, and the loss of their second son in just over a year," Henrikson said.
"There are no words of how to describe what his sister Courtenay and mother Lori are going through."
Jordan Krull died last year after apparently falling from a moving train in Thailand, according to local media at the time.
Jordan gained Internet notoriety during the 2010 Games in Vancouver when he was tackled by police on video after trying to light a cigarette off of the Olympic Torch.
No funeral date has been set for Jason.
