Greenhouse gas reduction call for Richmond businesses

The City of Richmond is delivering a pilot program for small and medium-sized businesses to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and cut operating costs. Climate Smart allows up to 12 companies to participate in the program.

The City of Richmond is delivering a pilot program for small and medium-sized businesses to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and cut operating costs.

Climate Smart allows up to 12 companies to participate in the program.

The program provides tools and training on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as, showing businesses how to save financially and operate efficiently.

Since 2008, Climate Smart has worked with more than 650 businesses, collectively achieving greenhouse gas emission reductions of more than 660,000 tonnes.

The cost to businesses will range from $250 to $1,000, which includes three half-day training sessions, ongoing coaching and technical support, access to Climate Smarts web-based greenhouse management tool and the use of Climate Smarts seal.

The City of Richmond has partnered with Fortis BC and the Pacific Carbon Trust on this program, as part of its commitment to achieving community greenhouse gas emissions reductions of 33 per cent by 2020, and 80 per cent by 2050.
