It appears Richmond school trustee Grace Tsang is the first out of the gate to announce shes seeking the nomination for the provincial Liberals in Richmond Centre.
Tsang made the announcement on Facebook, but said she was not prepared to make a formal announcement until she met with her campaign team to work out a platform.
Right now my focus is on the school board. We have an organizational meeting Monday night, and I want to concentrate on that, said Tsang, who was elected to Richmonds board of education in 2005.
The impetus to seek the Liberal nomination came from a phone call from some members of the local party executive, said Tsang.
I got a phone call suggesting I run. My husband was right there, and he said go for it. I also phoned my family and they said, we support you.
Since then, Tsang said she has been getting numerous phone calls encouraging her to throw her hat into the ring.
Im passionate about education, but being involved in provincial politics would give me a larger perspective.
Regarding current polls predicting an NDP win, Tsang said anything can happen.
With new blood and fresh ideas, we can revitalize the party.
Liberal MLA Rob Howard has held the Richmond Centre seat since 2009, but announced he would not seek re-election earlier this year.
