More than $120,000 was raised today in support of medical professionals and patients through the annual Richmond Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament, said Natalie Meixner, President & CEO of the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
Our dedicated medical teams of doctors, nurses and other health care professionals at Richmond Hospital require the best possible tools to assess and treat patients quickly and with absolute
precision, said Meixner. Were grateful to our sponsors and donors who help ensure our patients receive the very best care whenever they might need it close to home.
Some of the funds raised this year will support the Foundations efforts to help purchase new medical equipment for the Pulmonary Function Laboratory. Richmond Hospitals Pulmonary Function Laboratory performs complete evaluations of a patients respiratory system through a host of on-site diagnostic tools.
Funds raised through the Fund-A-Need segment of the Golf tournament will support the
Foundation's efforts to help purchase new equipment to replace the Labs aging Breathing Box, which is a vital tool to help assess, diagnose and treat lung disease. According to the World
Health Organization, lung disease is the fourth most common cause of death worldwide and is estimated soon to become the third most common. Lung disease is a serious and growing problem in Richmond, said Dr. Iqbal Ahmed, Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Richmond Hospital. We are sincerely grateful for the support today to help improve our diagnostic services for patients with lung disease in our community.
Once again, Richmond Hospital Foundations tournament sold out in record time one month
before the tournament date. Along with Presenting Sponsor River Green, Platinum Sponsor River
Rock Casino Resort, Eagle Sponsor Dorset Realty Group and Birdie Sponsor Macquarie Private
Wealth Inc., more than a dozen other sponsorship levels sold out prior to the tournament.
For over 25 years, Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised more than $40-million to help
purchase vital medical equipment, improve patient care programs and upgrade facilities at
Richmond Hospital.
Background on the Pulmonary Function Lab at Richmond Hospital and the need for a
new Breathing Box
The Richmond Hospital Pulmonary Function Laboratory has been serving the community of
Richmond since 1987. Last year the Lab was able to test more than 2,000 patients.
While Richmond Hospitals Pulmonary Function Laboratory performs complete evaluations of a
patients respiratory system through on-site diagnostic tools, the equipment is aging. A critical
component is the Labs sole Breathing Box, which is vital to:
- Help determine the cause of breathing problems
- Diagnose certain lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Diagnose asthma
- Check the lung function of people regularly exposed to fine particles and fumes such as
constructions workers, firefighters and welders
- Check the effectiveness of treatment for lung diseases
